Consultation quietly launched for Wrexham Gateway regeneration and transport hub scheme
A major regeneration scheme which could see the creation of a new transport hub in Wrexham city centre has a new consultation open.
Transport for Wales (TfW) is working alongside Wrexham County Borough Council, Welsh Government, Wrexham University, and wider partners, to bring forward a major regeneration scheme in the area surrounding Wrexham General station, referred to as ‘Wrexham Gateway.
The ambitious project includes the redevelopment of Wrexham General Station and surrounding areas with the aim of boosting the local transport network.
The long-mooted Wrexham Gateway would eventually see the regeneration of the entire train station and Mold Road areas, with the Kop development playing a key role in the project.
In 2021 Wrexham.com reported that the Welsh Government had bought the former Dickens car showroom and surrounding land, as well at freeholds at the former Country Stores premises near the Wrexham General railway station.
As part of the Wrexham Gateway project parts of the area is expected be used to help improve transport linkages and could provide space for new offices and homes.
A six-week engagement exercise has now launched to understand in more detail any challenges that members of the public and businesses face when travelling to, from, and whilst using Wrexham General railway station.
This is to ensure that a wide range of feedback and potential opportunities in the area are captured, whilst also providing an update to the Wrexham Gateway Transport Hub proposals.
A series of drop-in events are being hosted by Transport for Wales, to allow members of the public opportunities to find out more and discuss the proposals with the project team. These will take place at:
- Tŷ Pawb (Tŷ Pawb, Market St, Wrexham LL13 8BB) on 14 November, 14:00 – 18:00
- Wrexham University Room B10 (Mold Road, Wrexham, Wales, LL11 2AW) on 15 November, 10:00-14:00.
- Wrexham General Station (Station Approach, Wrexham, LL11 2AA) on 29 November, 09:00 – 19:00.
The engagement period is open now and runs until 19 December 2023. You can find out more about the proposals and complete an online feedback form by visiting the Transport for Wales website.
Welsh Government’s Transport for Wales spends huge amounts on communication – however fails to properly engage with independent media’s audiences across Wales. Wrexham.com and others have tried to engage however TfW appear entirely disinterested. We are running this due to the obvious local public interest.
