Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has congratulated a graduate placement provider as it celebrates its tenth anniversary.

GO Wales looks set to grant over 6,500 students and graduates with training and development opportunities to prepare them for their future careers.

The local GO Wales facility is located at the Glyndwr University Careers Centre and next week, AM Griffiths will take part in the celebrations by presenting local businesses with certificates of excellence for work experience and graduate employment.

The Graduate Opportunities Wales (GO Wales) project helps prepare students and graduates for work and their future career through paid and unpaid work experience opportunities.

It provides support for the training and development of graduates employed in small and medium sized businesses in Wales. The programme is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Social Fund and offers a variety of services, from paid internships to voluntary work tasters and placements.

For 10 years GO Wales has provided the link between employment and personal development for numerous graduates looking for their break. Many graduates experience difficulties finding relevant work suitable to their qualifications as employers often look to hire individuals with experience. The project attempts to redress the balance and supports the development and retention of graduates’ high level skills, knowledge and innovation.

AM Griffiths said: “Wales’ younger generation has suffered as much as anyone during the current economic downturn. It is difficult for experienced professionals to get a job, let alone graduates.”

“I am pleased the Welsh Government has responded and now, thanks to GO Wales, more young people have experienced training and development, relevant to their academic qualifications.”

“People from Wrexham have benefited directly from the programme and I urge any graduates searching for future career employment opportunities to visit the website.”

To take part in GO Wales services you must have an address in Wales and either be studying at a higher education institution or be a graduate wishing to develop your career in Wales. More information can be found at www.gowales.co.uk.
