A woman who has helped to raise thousands of pounds for a local family affected by cancer has been recognised by Chirk Town Council as its Citizen of the Year.

The annual event, held at Chirk Parish Hall on October 17, recognises the work and achievements of people within the local community.

Amy Valentine, of Chirk, received this year’s title for her work in the local area.

Amy has helped to support people within the local community, including by raising £3,000 for a local family who’s daughter had been diagnosed with cancer.

She has not only done this for this family but for others in Chirk during some of the hardest times in their lives.

Amy also has had her own personal goals to achieve to become a volunteer first aid responder.

She has worked tirelessly to raise awareness to the Chirk community along with fundraising events, setting up go fund me pages, organising and hosting discos, afternoon teas and creating Christmas boxes for children in care.

At this month’s event Amy was presented with the Citizen of the Year award by Chairman of Chirk Town Council, Cllr Frank Hemmings.

Cllr Hemmings said: “It gave us as a council great pleasure to present the Citizen of the year, to an individual of whom has had a positive impact on our community, and evidently thought of in high regards.
