Water company Hafren Dyfrdwy is to continue supporting charities in the region with £50,000 of grant funding being made available through its Community Fund.

Funding applications will open on Monday, October 9 with the focus firmly on helping good causes through the cost-of-living crisis.

Since 2021, Hafren Dyfrdwy has awarded more than £98,000 to 15 inspiring community projects in the Powys and Wrexham communities and the re-opening of the fund will provide an additional £50,000 of funding for core costs.

Core costs are essential costs charities and organisations need, simply to keep running.

This might include management and administration, accountancy and audit, utilities and staffing.

Non-profit organisations providing vital support for residents in the Hafren Dyfrwdy region, especially those most vulnerable, who are finding it financially difficult to maintain their current activities, can apply to be considered for a grant of between £2,000 and £10,000 for one year to help communities get through these challenging times.

James Jesic, Hafren Dyfrdwy Managing Director, said: “Now more than ever, many charities across the region we serve are continuing to struggle due to the cost-of-living crisis. To help organisations deliver their vital services, we’ve committed to allocating this year’s £50,000 Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund to cover core costs for groups.

“Previously, the Community Fund was for new projects only, with funding for core costs not eligible. As the last few years have been particularly tough due to the combined impact of the pandemic and cost of living crisis, we can see there is a real need for support with core funding to help the running of these essential charities.”

This year’s Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund will launch on Monday, October 9 and will stay open until the £50,000 has been awarded.

Grants from the Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund are available to non-profit organisations to improve the wellbeing of communities in the Hafren Dyfrdwy region, linking to one or more of the following services:

  • People: Services that help people to lead a healthier life and develop skills
  • Places: Services that help to create better places for communities
  • Environment: Services that help look after our natural environment, give people greater access to that environment or help look after water
