A heartfelt plea has been made to help safeguard the future of a Caia Park community hub.

Dianne Hughes, owner of Delta Academy of Dance and Performing Arts, has launched a campaign to raise £250,000 in a bid to ensure the survival of Queensway Community Building.

The performing arts academy, which has been based in the building since 2017, shares the space with the Happy Hedgehog Café and Queensway Craft and Textiles shop.

She describes the facility as a “crucial lifeline for the community, a sanctuary where people find solace, support, and a sense of belonging.”

However in a GoFundMe – viewable here – Dianne Hughes warns the future of the community organisation is “at imminent threat of relocation due to the landlord wanting to sell the building.”

In her plea, Dianne Hughes says: “Today, I come to you with an urgent plea to ensure the survival of our beloved Queensway Community Building.

“Our dance academy has been a thriving force for almost four decades, providing exceptional training to over 500 children and young adults every week. We put on a well-loved annual show/pantomime at the William Aston Hall.

“Our pupils are trained in dance, drama and singing, but also exhibit personal growth in other areas such as life skills, confidence, discipline and respect for others.

“Our highly qualified, experienced teachers find their relationships with the students to be multi-faceted – friend, mentor, counsellor, careers adviser and more.

“We strive to allow children from all walks of life to shine and so offer multiple scholarship places.

“In 2017, we made a bold decision to relocate to our current venue in Caia Park, where we have transformed an old garage into a warm, inclusive space that now houses the Delta studios, .

“Despite financial stability over the years, we now face the imminent threat of relocation due to the landlord wanting to sell the building! The potential consequences are heart-wrenching for our community.

“Our Queensway Community Building is a refuge for those affected by Dementia and their carers holding twice monthly Dementia dinners/activities, a nurturing ground for thriving craft and friendship groups, a platform for local talent to shine, and a provider of essential Work Experience for vulnerable groups.

“We host vital community social events and actively support local initiatives.

“A recent burglary brought the community’s outpouring of support to the forefront, showcasing the profound impact our space has on people’s lives.

“Quotes like “Thank you for getting me out of bed in the morning and back into life’s stride” underline the importance of our community building.

“Now, we turn to you, for help. Your generous support would enable us to purchase the building and continue making a positive impact here in Wrexham City.

“Please consider contributing to our fundraising efforts and help us keep the doors of the Queensway Community Building wide open.

“Together, we can safeguard this vibrant hub, ensuring it remains a pillar of hope and positivity for years to come.”
