Calls have been made for Euro 2016 memorabilia to be displayed in Wrexham to celebrate Wales’ achievements in the tournament.

Following on from Wales’ success in Euro 2016, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, Cllr Hugh Jones has requested the help of the Football Association of Wales in obtaining items associated with the recent competition.

Cllr Jones, said: “Our wish is to ensure that there is a publically accessible Euro 2016 collection that fans can easily access through exhibitions and events.

“We are interested in collecting any item which represents the story of Wales in Euro 2016, from qualifying in 2015 to their semi final against Portugal.”

Wrexham has a strong history of Welsh football having been custodian of the Welsh National Football Collection since 2000.

The collection was first developed with the support of major funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which enabled the Museum to purchase large private collections including that of Glenda Charles the late John Charles’ wife.

Over the last 16 years the collection has been expanded and a total of eleven football exhibitions have been held.

The current exhibition “Touched By Greatness” The Story of Welsh International Football” was developed and produced to coincide with the Euro 2016 Championship.

Earlier this week Wrexham’s Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths and MP Ian Lucas announced they had written a joint letter to the Welsh FA inviting the Wales team to North Wales to celebrate their achievements.
