A busy town centre road is due to close this evening for works that could last as long as two weeks.

Wrexham Council have said “Motorists are advised that Bradley Road in Wrexham will close for emergency gas repairs at 6 pm this evening.”

It will be closed between Watery Road and Ruthin Road.

Access will be available for residents.

Watery Road will remain open at the moment and is sounding likely to be one way later in the week, but we will update with information as and when that happens.

The Council added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask motorists to bear with us during the emergency works which could take up to two weeks.”

UPDATE: Wales and West Utilities have been in touch, with information from Peter Hughes, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Wrexham, who said: “A gas pipe has been damaged and is leaking in the Bradley Road area of Wrexham. As the gas emergency and pipeline service, we immediately sent engineers to the site.

“So that we can stop the leak and repair the damaged pipe safely, we have to close Bradley Road between Watery Road and Ruthin Road after the rush hour this evening. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.

“We do not yet know how long this repair will take, but we will work as safely and as quickly as we can to get this issue resolved and the road reopened.

“As part of this repair we will also have to work on Watery Road. Watery Road will be temporarily one way – with traffic only permitted to travel eastbound into town from Friday or Saturday, depending on our progress on Bradley Road. We will keep local people updated.

“I appreciate that the road closure and the one way system will be inconvenient, but it is essential to make sure that our colleagues and other road users are kept safe while we are working.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind anyone who is planning to work on the public highway or on private land to please ‘dial before they dig’ and contact our Plant Protection team to check the location of our gas pipes before they start work. They can be contacted on 02920 278912 or [email protected].”

“Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, takes pride in serving Wales and the south west of England. If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night.”
