A bomb disposal team were called to Wrexham today following concerns a ‘World War II grenade’ had been found near a primary school.

Earlier this afternoon there were reports locally that a ‘Bomb Squad’ van had been seen near Hafod Y Wern Primary School, Caia Park.

One resident also told us that two police cars were also in the area and that she had been told there was no concern or need to send the pupils home as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed they received a call at 12:08pm after what was thought to be a ‘suspicious item’, thought to be a World War II grenade had been found near the school.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal was called to the scene however the item was discovered thankfully to be a discarded oil filter from a vehicle.

The North Wales Police spokesperson added that no one was in any harm.
