Residents across Wrexham who stayed awake until the early hours of this morning witnessed the moon temporarily turn blood red.

The Blood Red Supermoon had not been seen for 33 years and fortunately the skies above Wrexham and North Wales were clear enough for people to witness the rare phenomenon.

Many took to Facebook and Twitter last night to comment on the brightness of the moon, which appeared 30% brighter and 14% bigger than usual due it being just 226,000 miles away from earth.

The last time a Supermoon crossed with an eclipse was 1982. Those who didn’t see the blood red supermoon will have to wait until 2033!

Those who did stay awake until the early hours the morning got the chance to witness the spectacular sight. Ger Morris said: “Stayed up to watch the moon! Beautiful. Stars very pretty too. Stunning night, puts you in a reflective mood!”

Jonny added: “That was well worth seeing! Feel sorry for anyone who missed. WOW!!”

Featured below are just some of the Supermoon pictures captured by Wrexham.com readers overnight – also a very cool time lapse video of the eclipse!
