Update 7th August: The barn fire in Hope which tied up firefighters for a number of hours has been ruled as being started by an electrical fault on a tractor or spontaneous combustion of the hay inside the barn.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at a farm at Hope at 23.22hrs on Monday, 5th of August and crews from Wrexham and Buckley tackled the fire involving 500 tonnes of hay, a tractor and farm machinery stored in the barn.

The Incident Support Unit from Mold and relief crews from Ruthin and Deeside were dispatched, with four main jets and two hose reels being used to fight the fire. The incident was brought under control by 15.18hrs on the 6th of August.

Chris Nott explained: “We will allow the straw to smoulder on the fields, and will monitor it and will be reattending should the fire flare up again.

“Crews worked well in difficult conditions to get the fire under control and we are now working with Natural Resources Wales and the landowner to limit damage to the environment and control the fire.”

Update 6th August: Further to earlier reports its been confirmed that the smoke was a result of a barn fire last night being dampened down this morning.

Fire crews were called at 11:22pm to a farm outside of Hope, with four engines attending. No one has been hurt following the fire. It appears the contents of the barn has been dragged out to fields and is smouldering, thus the ‘burn off’ reports from local residents.

This morning we received reports of a ‘large fire’ around the Hope & Llay direction, with one mentioning it appeared to be at the industrial estate. Thankfully the fires appeared to be controlled burn offs in a field nearby.

The smoke was visible from town, and commuters along the A55 and A483 got in touch wondering what was causing the very large plumes of smoke in the area.

When Wrexham.com visited the area the fire appeared to be under control, and speaking to one person from Rossett they told us similar burn offs have occurred recently but todays burn off was the largest they had seen.
