On Friday, 27 January, the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) is hosting the annual Holocaust Memorial Day event featuring various speakers and short films 11.00 am – 12.00 pm in Tŷ Pawb’s performance space.

Each year Holocaust Memorial Day activity in the UK is underpinned by a specific UK-wide theme chosen by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. For 2023, the theme is ‘Ordinary People.’ This will be the theme of the commemoration, headlined by London-based poet Adam Kammerling.

Adam Kammerling is an award-winning poet and educator based in London. His debut collection, ‘Seder,’ reinvigorates the Jewish Passover ritual to retell a contemporary story of Jewish survival.

Exhibition stands will be available for viewing from 10.30 am – 11.00 am. Following the memorial service at 12.00 pm, there will be light refreshments with food from around the world.

AVOW’s Chief Officer, Dawn Roberts-McCabe, said: “All are welcome to attend this event to remember those affected by genocide and remind ourselves why we must ensure events such as the Holocaust must never happen again.”

Free places are available by registering on Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/hmd-wrexham-2023

The event is in collaboration with Wrexham County Borough Council’s Community Cohesion Team and the Race Council Cymru North Wales Multicultural Hub. The project has been funded by the Welsh Government ‘Anti-racist Wales Culture, Heritage and Sport Fund.’
