Unpaid carers across Wrexham can now apply for a £500 payment from the Welsh Government.

The payment is part of a £29m investment in unpaid carers from the Welsh Government and recognises the financial and emotional hardship many have experienced.

It was announced by the Welsh Government earlier this year in recognition of the pivotal role unpaid carers have played during the pandemic.

The funding is aimed at individuals who “care for someone at least 35 hours a week and have a low income”.

Applications for unpaid carers are now open on the Wrexham Council website.

The one-off payment is eligible to all unpaid carers across Wales who were receiving Carers Allowance on March 31 2022.

An unpaid carer is someone who cares for a partner, relative or friend who has an illness of disability. Carers Allowance is paid to people caring for at least 35 hours a week, who care for someone receiving certain benefits and who earn no more than £128 a week.

You will not be eligible for the payment if you have an underlying entitlement to Carers Allowance but do not receive a payment because you receive another benefit at the same or higher rate or you receive a carer premium within a means tested benefit.

Unpaid carers must apply before 5pm on July 15 2022. Payments for successful applications will be made from June through until the end of September 2022.

You can make an application for the £500 on the Wrexham Council website.
