Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in Johnstown.

The incident took place at around 10:30pm on Tuesday January 3 when the young woman, who was walking along Stryt Las was grabbed from behind by a man.

She screamed and managed to break free before the man ran off along Stryt Las in the direction of Penycae.

The victim was not physically hurt, but was left badly shaken and distressed by the assault.

The suspect is described as about 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build and was wearing a black hoodie, black jogging bottoms and trainers.

Extra patrols have been deployed to the Johnstown area to reassure local residents.

DS Roz Hewitt said: “This was clearly a distressing incident for the young woman and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen a man behaving suspiciously in the area around the time, or who may have heard the victim scream out, to contact police on 101 quoting reference V001435.”
