More than a thousand people are expected to descend on Wrexham town centre next week to take part in the annual St David’s Day parade and celebrations.

Once again this year, in partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam have organised the St David’s Day celebrations in Wrexham on Thursday March 1st

Over the years the parade and St David’s Day celebrations have become firm fixtures in Wrexham’s calendar of events – with the streets of the town centre being transformed into a sea of daffodils, flags and Welsh pride!

This year the streets of Wrexham are set to turn red, white and green, with organisers expecting more than a thousand people turning out on the streets to cheer the parade on and to enjoy the entertainment that follows.

As usual the parade will assemble outside the Guildhall from 12.45pm before starting at 1.00pm sharp.

Led by the the Cambria Band, the parade will make its way through the town ending in Queen’s Square where pupil from local schools will perform and where everyone will have an opportunity to join in singing Calon Lân and the National Anthem to the accompaniment of the Wrexham County Senior Brass Band.

People are also welcome to join in at any point along the route of course.

Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, Gill Stephen, said: “There is a warm welcome to anyone who is interested in taking part in the parade to contact us, whether an individual, school, society or local youth club.

“We also hope to build on the success of last year’s ‘best dressed window’ competition by getting even more local businesses involved.

“This competition encourages the town’s businesses to decorate their windows on the theme of St David’s Day to celebrate all things Welsh and the winning business will receive a trophy and there is still time for businesses to contact us to register and receive their free starter pack.”

Wrexham’s celebrations are a part of numerous events that will take place across Wales to celebrate St David’s Day, so use #DewiWrecsam on social media for information, to share photos, and to follow the event throughout the day.

Anyone interested in getting involved in the parade or taking part in the window dressing competition should contact Gwen Smith, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam on 01352 744040 or email [email protected]
