The works on the Posthouse roundabout, that was formally completed in June, are finally going to be finished this week.

The works were formally completed earlier this year, however as those who use the road will have seen there has been fluoro-clad workers around the junction doing work for the last few months.

Highways England say that contractors will make the ‘finishing touches’ to the project this week, with things finally being complete this time next week.

The Highways England scheme at the A55 junction with the A483 went live in June when roadworks were removed, an extra lane was opened and new traffic lights were switched on. Overall the reaction has been positive with congestion down and queuing down, however issues with traffic light timing and other niggles have created large one off problems recently.

Highways England say: “Work has been taking place since then to install new street lights at the junction and commission and monitor an intelligent traffic light system, which responds to changes in the number of vehicles approaching the junction from each direction.

“The final piece of work requires the eastbound exit slip road on the A55 to be closed overnight for two nights to resurface a short section of road and paint new lane markings.”

The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th October. A diversion will take drivers to the next junction to turn around and come back.

Mark Mosley, Project Manager at Highways England, said: “Posthouse roundabout is one of the busiest junctions in the North West and the extra lane and new traffic lights have helped to improve the flow of traffic through the junction since the roadworks were removed in June.

“We’ve been carrying out work behind the scenes over the past few months to make sure the junction is operating correctly and to make finishing touches to scheme, including installing new street lights.

“We now need two final overnight closures of the eastbound exit slip road to complete the scheme, and are carrying out the work when the junction is at its quietest.”

The A55/A483 project also involved installing new traffic lights at the A483 junction with Rough Hill, just south of Posthouse roundabout, and at the junction linking the A483 to the B5445 Wrexham Road, replacing the mini roundabout. Highways England say: “These traffic lights have been synchronised with the new lights at Posthouse roundabout to improve the flow of traffic.”

CCTV cameras have also been installed at the roundabout ‘to allow traffic officers to monitor the junction and respond quickly to incidents’.
