A celebration of entrepreneurship at Wrexham University has highlighted successful and inspiring small businesses to students.

On Wednesday 20 March the university played host to a successful Celebration of Entrepreneurship in the Reception and Gallery spaces at Plas Coch Campus.

The event, which hosted over 200 attendees, gave students the opportunity to network with local entrepreneurs and build connections with business support providers Business Wales and Business and Investment from Wrexham Council.

Also in attendance was Wrexham’s Mayor Councillor Andy Williams and the University’s Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Maria Hinfelaar.

Wrexham University Entrepreneurship Coordinator, Sasha Kenney said:  “The aim of this event was to raise the visibility of local entrepreneurship within the University and highlight the importance of entrepreneurial skills for our learners.

“Our exhibitors provided real-world examples of how students can harness their business ideas to contribute to both the local and global economy.

“The event provided a platform for inspiring, educating and connecting like-minded individuals within our vibrant community.”

At the event, exhibitors took the opportunity to engage attendees with their businesses and products whilst keynote speakers provided students with an insight into their own entrepreneurial experiences.

On opening the event, The Mayor of Wrexham Cllr Andy Williams, said: “[I am] thrilled to join the Wrexham University community in celebrating entrepreneurship.

“This event is testament to the forward-thinking spirit driving our city’s future.”

Vice Chancellor Maria Hinfelaar added: “At Wrexham University we pride ourselves on supporting learners with their next steps beyond university.

“It is fantastic to see so many learners engage in entrepreneurship with such commitment and dedication as we see here today.

“Our dedicated Enterprise Lounge is an excellent resource for our students to utilise and gain support from our Entrepreneurship Team.”

Entrepreneurial students from Wrexham University’s Regent Street campus were also able to showcase their creative businesses at the event with stands selling a range of artwork, ceramics, print, and textiles.

Ceramic artist, Connor Townley, said: “The celebration of entrepreneurship event gave me the amazing opportunity to meet The Mayor of Wrexham and have the honour of him purchasing my work.”
