Marford’s land is worth more to the council, thats the difference. That would help plug the hole in there £34,000,000 deficit.

In this case I think if the community rallied around and make enough noise the council might listen. I think it said in the article that Marford was at risk because of the building and not because it was underused. Kick up a stink and who knows it could be saved. After all the council wants votes at the next election and an unhappy community is not how to collect them.

We have spent from the day we had the call for possible closure up until yesterday at 4.30, walking the streets, putting up banners, having meeting. e-mailing, researching, everything we could do.. And it’s paid off.. We have fighting spirit in this village, enthusiasm and energy.

I just want to put a few people straight on this matter. I run the Marford playgroup from the mentioned Community Centre.
In reply to NJones. The other venues mentioned in the village/surrounding village are NOT suitable for our growing childcare facility. We run 4 full days a week. PG for morning sessions, foundation phase learning.. This means early education…. funded early education for children who are 3 up till joining nursery at school. We also take the nursery children from the Rofft for pg+session. We walk these children over…. This allows parents to WORK. We also run a very busy mother and toddler group. Oh and finally a holiday club for working parents.. Children aged 2-8. This set up requires a LOT of provisions.. This service cannot be accommodated at the Rofft school, methodist church or Gresford.. They have their own thriving group, and there is already a Temps morning and after-school club that caters for children 5 and above at the Rofft.

Now the 600 letters, i had printed and hand delivered by my staff and myself. This took 2 days and the reason we knocked on doors, was to alert our community… We have a great community that like many others needed to be made aware and are certainly more than prepared to fight for what is our only facility in the village of Marford.

The building itself was looking very drab but has had a face lift.. The council have failed to spend £34,000 on repairs. This is in the report, so yes, it needs updating a little inside. The potential is great, fantastic position, fantastic outdoor area and a fantastic group of villagers that are more than prepared to put the work in and take over as a trust.

What Marford is faced with is a lot of people think Marford is snobby and i think somebody posted with “wads of money”.
Well like anywhere, there are wealthy people in the area and there are also people like me, that actually want to live in an nice area. For this to happen we have to get off our backsides and work for it. Nothing wrong with that and why should we as a village have to pay for something that is any other villages given right. Ruabon has 4 centres!
