Have I missed somnething in this fiasco have the Save the Groves campaigners actually come up with any ideas for what they want the building to be used for…
Fully agree the Council should seek tax advice for Council members and sign them all up on a salery (allowance) sacrifice scheme.
Really glad that someone had better Excel skills than me– what is interesting from an accounting view point is that the Council have been splitting the costs over 4 different budget headings– has this been deliberate to deflect people from seeing the full amount easily or is it they actually have more than one contract in place. The big one which is supposed to be 10% of £45m what are they others for?
It really does show that the management in the Council need to go as ratepayers are paying for them and now consultants to do the same role surely this is double funding or is it covering up the incompetence of the management team to get and so their job of managing change.
PWC like most consultants generally talk to existing management and staff and then regurgitate in a format that looks like their work rather than letting managers get on and do the job.
Hiding behind a consultant’s report when things get difficult really shows a complete lack of leadership and an inability to deal with difficult decisions.
Nen I dont think anyone is questioning PWC proffesional ability to carry out the task the real issue is why have them in the fisrt place.It is widely known within the staff in the Guildhall/Council that you have to say or write what is required at the top – opinions and professional views count for nothing and there is the ongoing fear that your job could be next to go- definitely not a place that many people would choose to work if there was a choice.
Not sure were the £750k figure came from – it has been widely reported previously that they had a 10% ‘commission’ fee on the £45m saving PWC could ‘find’ — that makes their fee £4.5 million
No matter how much funding is thrown at trying to increase the number of Welsh speakers if there is not the will from individuals this will never happen and will be a waste of funding.
It would appear that the only real way to make a difference would be through schools with Welsh being cumpulsory with through bilingual education.
I believe one of the worst things that can happen is Welsh only schools — this level of segragation does nothing to encourage those from a non Welsh family background to engage. Segregation through the school system breeds a culture of seperation and not integration.Alun- when trying to work out the Opportunity Cist you also ned to factor in the impact on all of those people that use the centre if they did not have access and developed a variety of health related issues or use it for therapeutic recovery.
Yes the £500k could have been spent on the health service to treat a couple of patients– isn’t the value for money that 100’s/1000’s use the facility in the year and have health benefit or attend their under the Health Service Exercise on Referral etc.
There is no reference here to the £1m (no one will give full details) of the contract fee the Council are paying Freedom Leisure to keep all of the other leisure facilities open — yes your taxes and rates!#
It is time that people stopped picking on Plas Madoc and using it as a political football -look at the wider picture to we want facilities for all to benefit everyone – simple YES or NO. If it is NO then close Waterworld, Gwynne Evans, and Chirk etc.This must be one of the most bizzare things any Council has tried to do to engage with people — if these Councillors were serious about a town ‘walk abiout’ then why have they not decided to make themselves available in the town centre tomorrow (Sat) when all the choirs will be around. If the weather is good the Saturady Street event promoses to be one of the busiest days of the year.
If any of those Councillors attending the farze on Monday read this then why not turn up in town to the event– Regent Street, Hope Street, Queens Street, Henblas Street, Lord Street (you know all those street that have been neglected by the Council)
Open challenge to all Councillors get on the street on Saturday and face your electorate and stop the games of charades…Phil – whilst I have some sympathy for some of your points I would like to know how often the Council.Police have actullay used their existing owners to deal with Anti Social Bahaviour at this so called problem properties. If there is persistent offences taking place then approprite action can be taken– does this actually occur? If so how many of the 321 HMOs have been visited and of those how many have had multiple vists and how many actually had any action taken against them.
The Landords now need to register — how many proerties are you aware of in your Ward that have multiple occupancy but the landord for various reasons has not registered?
I will be amazed if there have been many visits or enforcement action as this seems to be another example of the Council being lame in it’s response to social issues.Phil could you be more precise over the VVP what is there to be seen for the millions pounds the Council have had so far — a Master Plan with no action or resource to deliver, a housing project for people with extra care needs – is unlikely to generate much footfall!!
An Arts Hub project that has more twists and turns in its development of drawn on paper would be an artistic master piece, and of course you have very carefully omitted to says that nearly £200k has been spent on a children’s nursery that lost over £50k in a year.
You may have a Party line as a Councillor to beef up VVP but until you can show the real difference it is going to make then I will remain sceptical.
