    Wait, i’m confused.

We will be having some “workshops” on different subjects like Austerity, Community Organising and so on and people will be able to ask questions, have a say and so on…

but they don’t have a real say because the structure of the assembly has already been decided. The questions they would ask and the answers given have already been loaded by the structure that from the facebook page seems to have been decided by people who belong to organisations that donate to the labour party.

I don’t have a problem with that (although i do see the irony given that austerity will still happen when labour gets voted in next time – see their assurances on budgets being in line with the current spending plans of the coalition) but i do have a problem that local people of wrexham cannot decide how the assembly is run and structured. It’s not democratic and not a true sense of the phrase wrexham peoples’ assembly especially as a lot of those invited to speak aren’t from or live in wrexham.

I’m confused. The last time I looked there was a Council in Wrexham elected by the people of Wrexham with a real mixture of political parties and Independents. I may not agree with a lot of what it does but it exists and there seems little to prevent those who seek to from either standing for it or voting for it.

As to austerity, short of growing a money tree, I suspect that all parties and all individuals will argue about which cuts and how deep. All the rest is bull

    agreed.

The assembly idea is stolen from Occupy and Democracy Now, but without the democracy.

You mean the democracy that has nothing to do with majorities and everything to do with small elites imposing their dinosaur views on actual majorities

So lets get back to the subject of the real Council, real jobs that are needed, great education to put people in those jobs and high earning jobs, an excellent health service to support all, especially the older who’ve already paid for what we already have; good roads, broadband and rail. Austerity came about because we as a nation spent money that did not exist. The solution, surely, is being part of an economy that can pay its way. If Wrexham delivers the right industries and skills into the market place, it will prosper.

Pseudo new labour … is it possible to be that fake??

These organisations are like mushrooms appearing overnight and going rotten very quickly. It’s very easy to be against something, but as soon as they try to decide what they are for, they will split into obscure socialist splinter groups squabbling on the head of a pin. Rule of history no.1 anyone using the term ‘people’s’ usually has very little time for people, especially those who have different views.

No point in attending this when we have a local authority paid to do the job and coordinate efforts with public and charity partners, and when we have democratically elected councillors who should join in and see that people who need help from the wider community are getting that real-time
