is being held tomorrow to raise a community contribution in support of a £50k grant application to WREN [land fill grant organisation] to help replace the soon to be condemned Toddler Play Area in the Park.

The grant application has been prepared by WCBC park officers and supported with a financial contribution from Offa Community Council.

The event is being organised by the Bellevue Park Area Residents Group and is being held in the Park’s community centre, off Bellevue Rd, from 10am till 1pm.

Our 50p a ticket raffle includes a Wxm AFC player autographed football kindly donated by local resident Dennis Morgan and lunch for two at the Bank on High St courtesy of proprietor Alex Jones.

If you are in the area then please pop in and show your support.

Why is the toddlers play area going to be condemned?

Three whole years ago, the council announced that the play equipment was shabby and needed replacing and that there was no way they were dipping into the hospitality nor any other fund to do so, it would appear that no-one has bothered with it since.
Councillor Wynn noted it just needed a coat of paint.

A more cynical poster with an eye for the political opportunist would not that it appears that the Play Area has gone critical in the run up to some local elections.

“Cllr Alun Jenkins said: “Wrexham Council says it needs to be replaced but they’ve no funding to do this.

“Some of it is starting to look a bit shabby but I think all it needs is a lick of paint.
“It’s in perfectly good condition and the sort of equipment that’s there should be more robust than to need replacing already.”

quote from the Leader article .

Comment made by Councillor Alun Jenkins, who is the local councillor for the Offa Ward on Wrexham County Council , the park is situated in this Ward. Offa Community Council serves a much larger area and Councillor Phil Wynn is a member of that Council. The County Council obviously still proclaim there is no money for refurbishment so it is good to see the locals fund raising to get the job done.

I would have thought that the locals have already done their fundraising by paying their council tax!!

Does this mean that the Landfill company get control and more Liverpool crap is dumped in the area. NO NO NO WAY.

If money is to be raised it should be solely for the refurbishment or replacement of playground equipment and whatever else is needed.

High time Wrexham Council *spits* got its collective arse together and came up with REAL solutions that benefited the population of Wrexham.

No No NO to any outside company coming in to the detriment of the Bellevue Park.

I challenge Wrexham Councillors… enmasse to a Public Debate on this issue. A debate with a vote at the end of it which members of the public WILL take part in.

Come on cowboys…. state your case…. a dump for outsiders rubbish or what??? NO to another Johnstown stench area.

Taffy….the play equipment has been well used since it was installed nearly fifteen years ago, so its now showing its age. There are parts to the climbing frame which have been removed and others which due to corrosion will result in the equipment being taken away.

In anticipation of this happening myself as the ward member, Offa Community Council and WCBC’s play area officer have been working up a £50,000 grant bid to WREN.

The community fund-raiser went as well as we could of hoped, considering we decided to run the event less than a fortnight ago.

In total we raised £212 during the morning towards the project cost.

I would like to extend a warm thank-you to those who gave their time to put on the event, those who donated prizes for the raffle and for those residents who turned up to show their support.

Our next fund-raiser is a bingo session on Wednesday the 25th of March, at Poyser St Chuch Hall. Starts 7pm if you can make it along. The evening is being put on by the Friends of Bellevue Park.

Donations have also been made by the Bellevue Play Group, the Pensioner Club, Bellevue Ladies Club and the Management Committee for Bellevue Park Community Centre.

All in all a good team effort.

Fingers-crossed the community buy-in displayed will convince the WREN grant panel that the scheme is worthy of their support.

A decision will hopefully be known circa November.

    Phil Wynn
