Horse Sanctuary Celebrates Open Day with Special Guest
This year the H.A.C.K. Horse Sanctuary has been celebrating its 20th Birthday of dedication to horse welfare and other animals throughout Wales. The sanctuary, situated between Llay and Bradley was founded by Pamela Bluck in 1992 and is run entirely by volunteers. It continues to go from strength to strength and recently held their annual open day with special guest Paddy Doherty.
Paddy occasionally volunteers at the Sanctuary which gets him away from the pressures of such a busy life, He said,” I wanted to help my friends at H.A.C.K, it is a wonderful and peaceful place, and they do such good work, I will help them anyway I can”.
The day was a huge success and very well attended. Several other animal charities were invited too so they too could raise much needed funds for their own causes. The Cats Protection league, Raptures and Reptiles and Crested Dog Rescue were among some in attendance. There was also a very well supported Dog Show. Alan Dawber, Hope Horse Whisper, performed a demonstration with a feisty Arab mare, Eli, displaying a none violent way of training your horse. There was also plenty of family entertainment on offer in the form of dancing ponies, pony rides, stalls and a barbecue.
H.A.C.K. continually raise funds through year round events, but with the difficult economic climate and ongoing needs of the animals Pamela points out the sanctuary are having to work harder than ever:-
“We are continually under pressure not only with the demands of animals that need help but also the raising of funds to keep the whole thing going. It is tremendously hard work.”
