Wrexham Speed Camera Catches Second Highest Number Of Motorists In North Wales
A fixed position speed camera in Wrexham caught the second highest number of speeding motorists in North Wales during 2011.
The figures revealed by an FOI request show that the speed camera on the A525 Heol Maelor in Coedpoeth caught a whopping 1391 speeders last year.
It was only surpassed in catching lawbreakers by a camera on the A548 Greenfield in Flintshire which caught 1453 speeding motorists.
The Coedpoeth speed camera is placed in a 30mph zone just inside the village around 100 yds down the road from Ysgol Bryn Tabor.
An FOI request in June 2011 revealed that it also has the unwanted accolade of being the most attacked speed camera in North Wales.
The camera was attacked six times during a five year period with damage caused to the front of the lens box and even paint thrown over it.
Shockingly in an incident in 2008 there was an attempt to set it on fire which led to two arrests.
