Update: Leader of Wrexham Council Mark Pritchard has commented on the demolition earlier, “Congratulations to all involved for the successful work this morning. I would like to thank Dave Sharp who has been our Lead Officer on the project, and his team who have worked tirelessly with several stakeholders. I would also like to thank Darren Williams from the Environment Department, who are helping to clear up nearby streets to make sure things are neat and tidy. A big well done to all.”

Some videos of the demolition are below… more shortly.

Original information below…

The tower of the old police station in Wrexham town centre is set to be blown up this morning.

A live video stream is expected to start around 8:15am – and will be linked to on here as and when it goes live.

Members of the public are reminded there is a pandemic, and lockdown in place, so are asking people not to make a trip to watch. The council have also said, “Residents who may have health issues should also stay indoors for a few hours Sunday morning.”

Wrexham Council are supplying the above live video feed of the demolition via their Periscope account.

Work dismantling parts of the iconic tower has been ongoing for some weeks, with the surrounding buildings now gone and the windows from the main tower now removed.

Several roads are also closed off: Park Avenue and traffic going up Park Avenue towards the former station will be diverted along Penymaes Avenue. Powell Road from Tesco to Chester Road roundabout. Chester Road roundabout – Chester Street as far as the Fusiliers.

A NOTAM, or notice to airmen, is also in place , it reads: “EXPLOSIVE DEMOLITION WI 0.5NM RADIUS OF 530257N 0025923W (WREXHAM, WREXHAM COUNTY BOROUGH). 2020-11-0117/AS2”
