A5 By Chirk Closed Until Tuesday Evening As Tractor Hangs Off Edge Of Bridge
The Chirk bypass is is due to remain closed until around 5pm on Tuesday following an incident earlier this afternoon involving three vehicles.
The incident took place between the A483 Halton Roundabout and the B5070 Chirk Road / Station Road (Gledrid Roundabout) at 1:50pm this afternoon.
A tractor, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Fiesta were involved in the incident, which took place across both lanes of the bridge.
Llangollen Fire tweeted the above picture saying: “This was the tractor on the bridge before. This was sent by a member of the public.”
The road is currently closed both ways and there is queuing traffic in the area. Katie has been in touch to say that traffic is building up through Chirk as a result.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said they were called to the incident at 1:50pm this afternoon, adding: “A tractor collided with a barrier and an informant said it was hanging over the central reservation.”
West Mercia Police confirmed that North Wales Police had also attended the scene.
A spokesperson for North Wales Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.52pm to a road traffic collision on the A483 near Chirk. We responded with a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance, and a woman in her 30s was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
It is also reported that a male driver of one of the cars was also taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the tractor was not taken to hospital.
Llangollen Fire have since tweeted to say that they attended the scene to assist with the recovery.

Traffic is building in the area, with Paula getting in touch to say it took her an hour to get from Oswestry to Wrexham. There is also delays heading towards Llangollen as a result of the incident.
Arriva Midlands West have since stated that the incident may cause delays to a number of services, noting: “A5 Chirk bypass closed causing traffic delays around the Chirk area that might delay services 2, 2A & 2C Wrexham/ Cefn Mawr/ Oswestry.”
Diversions are in place while debris is removed from the road / due to the ongoing recovery. Traffic Wales are reporting that the road will reopen fully by tomorrow, with some reports stating 8pm but their website stating 5pm.
