If they’d actually create an entrance to the car parks from the new fire station area people might take advantage of the “easier escape” and use the further away car parks. This seems to be the case now, as I’ve noticed people parking in Morrisons and walking toward the hospital even when the hospital car parks aren’t full yet!

Surely the old Brother site is still available for a car park – if it hasn’t already been grabbed by those housing developers who were seeking planning permission there. There are also cheaper “temporary” steel framed multistoreys which the likes of Tesco have used at busier stores – it all comes down to cost in the end.

A second exit , situated at the rear of the hospital, would certainly help relieve congestion. If cars were able to leave the site quickly this would have some positive impact on the parking situation, at present people sit in their cars waiting to reverse out of a parking space to join the queue when there is a gap or another motorist gives way. The car park at present is also designed so cars entering the hospital have to turn right across the exiting traffic if they wish to park on the tiered parking, many people who are not aquatinted with the hospital layout begin their search for parking in that way. A rear exit would also relieve the amount of traffic on Watery Road , the real question is why wasn’t this done years ago ?
