Your Space hosts successful T20 Charity Cricket Match
A Llay-based autism charity has held a successful T20 Cricket Match,
Your Space, which has Wrexham star player “Super” Paul Mullin as a patron, held the well-addended event at Chirk Cricket Club on Sunday 25 June.
The match took place between the hosts Chirk and The Metronomes, who are a travelling cricket squad who fundraise for autism charities.
It was organised by Your Space’s Fundraiser and lifelong Cricket fan Andrew Edwards, who is also on the spectrum himself, in liaison with Michael Coleman of The Metronomes.
When asked about the match Andrew explained: “I came up with this idea of a match for Your Space in around June 2022.
“I thought that it would be a good idea to mix two of my big passions in life, which are Cricket and Autism Awareness/Acceptance.
“I then approached Michael to ask if The Metronomes could travel to Chirk Cricket Club, who I have personally been involved with since 2018, to play a match in aid of Your Space.
“Michael has been a pleasure to deal with as he is so enthusiastic, communicative and passionate.
Founded in 2022, The Metronomes are a travelling charity Cricket team, who fundraise for autism.
The club was founded by Husband and Wife Michael and Bex Coleman from Northumberland, who have children on the autism spectrum.
The squad that travelled came from all over the United Kingdom to show their support for a cause they are all passionate about..
On game day itself, which was well attended by service users, their families along with Cricket fans alike, the Chirk team rattled up 165 for the loss of one wicket with five retired not outs in their allotted 20 overs. In response,
The Metronomes made 124 for eight off their allotment of 20 overs to fall 41 short of the host’s total
An online donation page run by The Metronomes has been set up for Your Space here. There is also an Online Cricket Memorabilia Auction with an array of signed items from stars past and present including Ben Stokes, Andrew Flintoff and James Anderson.
