Yale College Level 2 Fabrication and Welding students have made their mark in the Institute of Sheet Metal Engineering sheet metal work.

The competition, which took place at a Midlands based British manufacturing centre saw three fabrication and welding students win an award.

The creative students were entered into the competition by Carl Parrish, Lecturer and Fabrication & Welding at Yale College.

Yale College Level 2 Fabrication & Welding student, John Freeman, 28 from Wrexham won a Technical Merit award for written account of his product and received a trophy and a cheque for £50.

Level 2 Fabrication & Welding students Shaun Jones and Joe Smith also took part in the competition with John and exhibited excellent standards at the Sheet Metal Engineering (ISME) annual sheet metal forming competition.

John Freeman & Joe Smith were each given a task to produce a wall vent and provide a written account of how they had effectively produced and fabricated their work. Shaun Jones entered the open class, and demonstrated impressive skills as he produced hand-made forged roses and a vase which he presented to judges with a written report explaining how he designed and fabricated the product.

“Congratulations to John,” says Jasbir Dhesi, Principal at Yale College, “”e are delighted all our entrants have demonstrated excellent standards for the College in this nationally recognised competition.

“We encourage as many learners as possible to enter regional, national and international competitions, which gives them an exceptional opportunity to build confidence and employability skills.

“I know from conversations with employers how much they value students who have participated in competitions.”

The students have now completed the full time P2158 Level 2 Fabrication & Welding course. All three students are actively seeking employment /an apprenticeship within the fabrication and welding field and can contact Carl on [email protected] for a reference or more information.
