Popcorn and ice cream at the ready! A drive-in cinema experience is returning to Wrexham next month – with six hit films being screened across one weekend.

Following on from the popular Valentine’s drive-in cinema, the Wrexham Council events team, This Is Wrexham and Apollo Taxis are bringing a two day film summer spectacular to Bangor on Dee Racecourse on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June.

Over the weekend six classic films ranging from cult classics such as Dirty Dancing and Top Gun through to kids favourites Shrek and Toy Story will be broadcast on a huge Iconic 100 screen.

Try not to be stranded at the drive-in and a branded a fool during Saturday’s screening of Grease – and make sure that the force is with you during Sunday’s showing of Star Wars, the Force Awakens.

The first event in February was branded a huge success, with 300 cars driving in on Valentine’s Day to watch Notting Hill and Beauty and the Beast.

Speaking about June’s screenings, Destination Manager at Wrexham Council Joe Bickerton said; “We’re really excited to be able to stage another drive-in cinema this summer.

“Working with the This Is Wrexham Partnership (tourism board for Wrexham), the guys at Bangor on Dee racecourse and our sponsors Apollo Taxis is always simple as we all want to bring positive new events to the area.

“February’s cinema worked so well and many people have since messaged us to say what a great evening it was – so we got together and looked at how we could stage another.

“The films have all been chosen based on feedback through Facebook and we’re sure that they’ll be popular with everyone!”

Tickets are just £15 per car for each film, irrespective of the number of occupants and there will be free popcorn on arrival along with on-site catering if you’re feeling peckish!

Tickets can be purchased from the Wrexham Tourist Information Centre from Monday 15th May. You can also book via phone on 01978 292015 (Mon-Fri 10:00am – 4:00pm) but there will be a £1.00 postage fee.
