Wrexham Library set for roof upgrade
Works to replace the roof of Wrexham’s much-loved library will get underway this month.
The city centre library is ranked number one in North Wales and attract over 100,000 visitors and virtual visitors each year.
Last year it also hosted 479 events that were attended by over 8,000 people.
To help ensure the longevity of the building, works installing a new roof will start this month.
The timetable for Wrexham Library roof works is as follows:
On Saturday 9 September contractors will move in to establish their site compound and build the crash decks below the two sky lights.
On the same day the Wrexham Library Foyer will remain open, however the rest of the building will be closed due to the scaffolding being installed.
There will be access to the main library but customers can use their own devices in the foyer and access free wifi. During the works all stock will be available for the public.
On the 18 September works will start on the new roof.
It is estimated that this will be completed by mid to late December 2023.
The works have been funded from the planned council Capital Budget and will ensure the long term future of this facility in the heart of Wrexham.
Cllr Beverley Parry Jones, Lead Member for Corporate Services, said, “We ask all our users to bear with us as there will be some disruption and noise associated with these long overdue building works.
“Staff will be on hand if you need assistance and I thank them and all visitors for their patience during this time.
“Please be assured we will do everything we can to minimise disruption.”
Don’t forget, if you can’t visit the library in person you can up to 10 books from Borrow Box and you can read more about that here ‘No Queue’ Titles from BorrowBox
