An ’emergency meeting’ has been held by Wrexham Constituency Labour Party, resulting in an ‘advisory vote’ of no confidence in their Leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

UPDATE SUNDAY: Ian Lucas has written a letter to Jeremy Corbyn asking him to resign. A copy is below:
“I know that you and I wish to see the end of this Conservative Government. Every day, we see constituents who suffer the consequences of its dreadful policies.
Thursday’s vote for the UK to leave the EU has created a massive challenge to our country. Labour must now present a coherent plan to guide the UK in the immediate future and beyond.
Immediately following the Referendum result, your office wrote to me stating that you are “far closer to the centre of gravity of the British public than other politicians”. Having fought two campaigns in the last three months, listened closely to those I represent and, furthermore, having consulted with the membership of Wrexham Constituency Labour Party today, I have to say that this statement is not true. On the contrary, your approach to the Referendum and its result has convinced me that you have no understanding of the issues that face us and can never present the credible Labour response that is essential at this crucial time.
I have no confidence in your Leadership.
I have not spoken out before but now believe that the time has come for you to accept that you cannot provide the leadership that our Party and our country needs. I do hope that you will, in the national interest, stand aside.
I have written to you in person to make my views clear in advance of any public statement.
Yours sincerely,
Ian Lucas MP”

Original story from yesterday below…

The meeting was was held at middday today for members to discuss to recent Leave vote over the EU, with local MP Ian Lucas and AM Lesley Griffiths attending the debate and vote to give them a steer on the feelings of the local party members.

In a statement issued after the meeting the CLP explained, “With a good attendance, at short notice, of 32 members a detailed, interesting and varied debate took place that covered the many different opinions held by members on the referendum result and on how we move forward as a country and a party.

“At the meeting an advisory vote was taken, of members present, on the matter of the proposed Parliamentary Labour Party motion of no confidence in the Leader of the Labour Party – so that our elected representatives could gain insight into the feelings of members present on the matter.

“The result of the advisory vote was to support the motion of no confidence in the leader.”

Last year MP Ian Lucas nominated Andy Burnham and Tom Watson for Leader and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, calling the “A team to win”.

On the evening of the EU count Mr Lucas said “Labour needs a big change in its approach.”

It is expected that an attempt to topple Jeremy Corbyn will take place via a secret ballot of Labour MP’s to be held as early as Tuesday.
