Work being carried out on the new link road to Wrexham Industrial Estate from the Borras roundabout.

Work on a £30 million link road which will offer better connections to Wrexham Industrial Estate is ahead of schedule and on budget according to Project Manager Paul Foulkes.

The project hit the half way mark on Christmas Day and is expected to be completed by the 19th August.

Mr Foulkes said that the southern route which runs from Cross Lanes to Five Fords is on target to be completed even further ahead of schedule.

And the northern route, which runs from Borras roundabout to Bryn Lane roundabout, will be finished in time for the completion date in August.

He said that there had been several challenges during the construction process such as dealing with protected species such as badgers, newts, otters and bats.

The road has been paid for entirely through Welsh Government funding and is the culmination of a 20 year fight to improve links to the town’s industrial estate.

Members of Wrexham Council’s executive board will be given an update on the road’s progress and shown the latest aerial photographs at their meeting next Tuesday.

Councillor David Bithell, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Environment and Transport said: “I am very pleased to see the good progress being made on the Industrial Estate Access Roads Scheme, and look forward to completion of the northern and southern routes by late summer this year.

“Access to the Industrial Estate will be significantly improved, bringing high standard dual carriageway access all the way from A483 in the north to the ring road at Bryn Lane, and vastly improved access from A525 at Cross Lanes in the south to the Estate at Five Fords.

“This will help to make the Industrial Estate more attractive for inward investors and help existing businesses be more competitive. Journey times to and from the estate will become more reliable for industrialists and employees alike.”
