A Wrexham-based online learning service has received a prestigious education award for its work.

Tute Education scooped the 2023 Education Resource Award (ERA) for ‘Best Collaboration Between School & Supplier’ at a ceremony held last month in Birmingham.

The company, which is based on the Wrexham Technology Park, was also a finalist for the ‘Special Education Resource or Equipment Award’ category.

The organisation works closely with schools to provide the best possible learning solutions for children of all needs and abilities in an effective, integrated way.

The award recognises the company’s efforts and success, particularly during and following the Covid-19 pandemic. This includes Tute’s work alongside Thorpe St Andrew School, an 11 to 18 mixed secondary school in Norwich.

After trialling their own in-house solution to teaching and learning during the pandemic and implementing country-wide guidelines to address issues with student attendance and engagement concerns, Thorpe St Andrew saw little impact.

They sought an alternative resource with Tute to support those learners left most vulnerable by the pandemic and other factors.

A bespoke timetable of hybrid provision, utilising a range of face to face and online interventions was then created.

Tute provides students with easily accessible live lessons, delivered by qualified teachers across a range of subjects at key stage 4 for up to 15 hours per week in order to ensure students have access to high-quality learning, even if they are unable to engage in a traditional classroom setting.

The judges described Tute Education and Thorpe St Andrew School as an “excellent example of an innovative, flexible collaboration between a school and a supplier. The support provided during and in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic making a clear difference to the learning of some of the school’s most vulnerable pupils.”

The flexible approach taken by Tute and Thorpe St Andrew has helped students regain their confidence, particularly those with attendance challenges in coming back school after long absences and achieving success.
