Two local men were arrested following a police pursuit last night that ended with a car being rammed on Salop Road.

This afternoon North Wales Police have said a 33 year old man from Gwersyllt, and an 18 year old man from the Wrexham area are in custody following the incident.

Rob Jones was in a car that arrived on the scene moments after the pursuit ended, and appears to show two people running from the area up Salop Road with a police officer following. Two people are detained with a member of the public stepping in to help police. The nearby ambulance was already on Salop Road attending a property, unconnected to the incident.

Salop Road was closed off into the night while investigative work took place and reopened in the early hours of this morning.

Last night police said two people had been arrested for burglary, aggravated vehicle taking. The driver was arrested for dangerous driving.

The pursuit is believed to have started outside of the town centre, with various eyewitnesses reporting tyres being punctured via spike strips deployed by police. Others reported dangerous driving with the car being driven towards oncoming traffic, and at one point with no head lights on.

Police have been praised on social media for their actions to catch the driver of the car and stop the pursuit in a safe manner.

The video below is from a dashcam in a car that was travelling down Salop Road hill towards St Giles way at 8:58pm :
