A trio of terrific triathletes ran, swam and cycled their way to victory in a local competition.

The successful team, who named themselves “The Tri-hards”, were cyclist Trevor Coxon, swimmer Sue Wyn Jones, and runner Aled Rowlands, all of whom work in Wrexham Council’s Corporate and Customers Services department.

The three were one of 11 teams to take on the DW Fitness Corporate Challenge, which saw representatives from a number of companies and bodies across Wrexham tackle the challenge last month.

Both Aled and Trevor set the records in their respective events, with Trevor cycling 25k in 38 mins 40 seconds and Aled running 3k in 11 minutes 20 seconds. Sue boosted the team’s chances of victory by swimming her 500m in 10m30s.

The total challenge was completed in just 30 secs over one hour.

Trevor Coxon, Head of Corporate and Customer Services at Wrexham Council, said: “I’m really very proud of our efforts. I was pleasantly surprised to note my own time – all the cycling I did in the run-up certainly paid off.

“I’d also like to congratulate my team-mates for their outstanding achievement.”

Trevor added: “This has been very useful for me as it will form part of my training for an upcoming fundraising cycle I will be undertaking in June next year when I shall be riding the First Stage of the Tour de France to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.”

The Tri-hards attended an award ceremony on 4th September and received DW goodie bags from their Fitness Duty Manager Dave Brown.

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “I’d like to congratulate the team from the Corporate and Customer Services department for their fantastic performance during this challenge – well done to each of them.

“This also ties in very much with our Corporate Health and Well-Being Strategy – we always want to ensure our staff stays fit and healthy. It’s vitally important and this team serve as an excellent example of what our staff can achieve.”
