Thousands Flock To Wrexham For Wales Comic Con
Thousands of comic book fans, sci-fi lovers and cosplayers descended on Wrexham yesterday to visit the ever popular Wales Comic Con.
What started as a small convention in the Glyndwr Sports Centre has quickly evolved into an event that spans across the University – attracting fans from all over the world.
Yesterday’s event was the first time Wales Comic Con had held two events in the space of a few months. with this year’s first convention taking place in April.
Wales Comic Con Part Two (as it’s become known) featured some of the biggest names in the world of film and television, including Mark Sheppard (Supernatural) Alan Fletcher (Neighbours) Mark Addy (Game of Thrones) Shane Richie & Jessie Wallace (Eastenders) Peter Davison (Doctor Who) Christopher Barrie (Red Dwarf) and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
As if that wasn’t enough, there were the stars from BBC’s Atlantis, Star Wars, The Inbetweeners; wrestlers, writers and even a Power Ranger!
Throughout the day there were a series of Question and Answer sessions in the William Aston Hall, offering fans the chance to pose questions to the stars of Red Dwarf, Atlantis and Game of Thrones.
Possibly one of the highlights of the event was a live Storage Hunters auction, which took place in front of a packed out audience in the Nick Whitehead Theatre.
During the auction Jesse Mclure and Sean Kelly (Storage Hunters) auctioned off merchandise from the show, collectable items and finally the chance to have dinner with them in Frankie and Benny’s later on in the evening.
Elsewhere in the convention were live wrestling matches taking place throughout the day, a gamers bus, owl sanctuary, merchandise stalls, the TARDIS and an after party headlined by Welsh rock band, Funeral For a Friend.
Over the past few years, Wales Comic Con has become a staple event for the diary, attracting film and comic book fans from across the globe. As the event has grown in popularity, the strength of the guests on offer has grown and the event itself has become far more organised and streamlined.
Wales Comic Con Part Two carried on where the first event of the year left off – and going by the response of the people present at the event, it seems as though there are a lot of happy customers. Here’s to Wales Comic Con, an event Wrexham can be proud to call its own.
