The search is on for budding young cyclists to take part in a children’s time trial cycle competition in September.

As part of the cycling celebrations taking place for this year’s Aviva Tour of Britain the Council’s Sports Development officers have organised a children’s time trial cycle competition against neighbouring authorities.

Trials for inclusion in the Wrexham team take place at Erddig on Friday 21 August between 10 am and 13.00 pm.

Budding young Bradley Wiggins or Wrexham’s own Rob Partridge are invited to register for the event by contact Sports Development on 01978 298997 or emailing [email protected]

There are three categories:

Key Stage 2 male and female 7 – 11 year olds
Key Stage 3 male and female 11 – 14 year olds
Key Stage 4 male and female 14 – 16 year olds.

The event is free of charge.

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Cycling is a fantastic way for young people to be active and physically fit and I’m sure there are many of our young people out there who are up to this challenge. Good luck to all who take part and to the eventual Team Wrexham who will race on the 6 September.”

The Aviva Tour of Britain final leg of the first day ends in Chester Street, Wrexham on 6th September in what promises to be an exciting sprint finish. In addition to the main event and the children’s competition there will be a cycling celebration on Llwyn Isaf and a Dandy Amble along Chester Street to the Aviva Tour of Britain finish line.
