When pupils at a local primary school saw how much litter there was in Wrexham, they didn’t just complain, they wrote to their MP about it.

St Mary’s Catholic School pupils contacted Ian Lucas MP about their concerns with littering in the town centre.

They were worried about the damage litter does to the image of the town and the environmental impact it has, especially the harm it causes to animals.

The result was that Ian Lucas MP met up with them and launched a competition for them to make posters to express how they felt about litter in Wrexham.

The posters will now be displayed in the town to discourage people from littering.

Mr. Lucas said: “I met the pupils and awarded them a small prize for participating in the contest.

“The council has agreed to put up the children’s posters in the town centre and I believe their actions will make us all think and decrease the amount of littering in Wrexham.

“I have also contacted Amanda Davies, the town centre manager, about the problem areas the students identified and asked her to look into cleaning them up.”

He added: “I think it is very valuable for the pupils to learn that they need to act to address a problem and I would like to thank the school for taking part.”
