Parents Urged Not to Take Children Out of School in Run Up To Christmas
Parents or carers who have children of school age with them in town centre in the run up to the Christmas holidays will be challenged by Community Education Patrols, a partnership between Wrexham Council and North Wales PCSOs.
They will be out on the streets during December as part of a campaign “Do you want to give your child a free gift this Christmas?”.
The campaign poster highlights that ‘education is Free and provides access to sports, opportunities, friendships and access to good jobs’.
The scheme is aimed at parents who are seen with school age children and points out they face a maximum fine of up to £2,500 or even a term of imprisonment.
Cllr Michael Williams, Lead member for Children’s Services and Education, said: “I would urge parents not to allow or take their children out of school on Christmas shopping trips in the lead up to Christmas.
“The last days and weeks of term are important both socially and academically. Your children have only one chance at school. Help them make the most of it.”
