North Wales Police officer to take on Paris marathon for charity
A senior North Wales Police officer will be taking part in the Paris Marathon today to raise money for a charity set up following the murder of two police officers in Manchester in 2012.
Running alongside a friend, Craig Jones, DCI Alun Oldfield will be taking part in his first ever marathon on behalf of the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.
In September 2012 two unarmed uniformed police officers were shot while attending a routine burglary. The aim of the charity is to provide learning opportunities and pre-employment skills through grants or services to people under 21 who have suffered the tragic loss of a close family member through a violent crime such as murder or manslaughter.
DCI Oldfield said: “I am very proud to be running on behalf of the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund and Craig and I intend to raise £1000.
“This money is needed to help establish a network of therapy providers for those children suffering from post-traumatic stress.
“I am appealing to people to donate through JustGiving. It is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
“So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.”
