Nominations for the role of mayor and deputy mayor of Wrexham have been backed by councillors.

Incumbent Deputy Mayor Cllr Andy Williams, who represents the Garden Village ward, will take over the role of mayor in May as is convention.

Llay Cllr Rob Walsh will take over the role of deputy mayor, and therefore highly likely to be a future mayor.

Both will serve in the roles for the next year, attending a number of formal functions and local events.

Three factors are taken into account for the “process for nominations for appointment of mayor and deputy mayor. These include members’ seniority, members’ ability and willingness to be proposed and members’ record of attendance at meetings.

The nominations for the two roles were presented at the full council meeting earlier this week for consideration.

Unlike last year’s full council session, there was no debate or questioning over the nominations.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of appointing Cllr Williams to the role of mayor and Cllr Walsh to the role of deputy mayor.

They will be formally appointed to the positions at the Annual Meeting of the Council in May.
