Update: Monday 12pm

Dee Valley Water have said that the discolouration experienced in certain parts of Wrexham is down to the hot weather, which has caused a high demand on water supplies.

They issued a statement to say: “We are aware that some customers in the Rhosrobin, Gwersyllt, Llay, Penyffordd and Johnstown areas may be experiencing occasional discolouration of their water supply.

“This discolouration is harmless and is due to the warm weather and increased demand on our water supplies.

“Operational measures are being put in place to deal with the discolouration and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Sunday: 10.30pm

We have received reports of brown murky discoloured water coming out of the taps around Wrexham over the last few days.

People in Llay, Acton and Rhosddu have all been in touch saying they have been affected. Penny_F described it as it looking like ‘someone with a fake tan’ had had a bath before her! Debbie Williams told us that she had been drinking it and it ‘tastes ok’.

Often such discolouration is due to dislodging of deposits in the mains system , either due to heavy use, low water provisions or other issues. Generally speaking its not thought that such deposits, although unsightly, pose a risk to health.

A mains burst back in February caused major discolouration of water in and around Wrexham, which was traced to a problem with an underground mains by the hospital.

We will be speaking with Dee Valley Water in the morning to get the latest.
