The film ‘Marvellous’ that was partially shot at the Racecourse Ground on Mold Road has received three BAFTA award nominations.

The BBC Press Office described the film as a drama “…telling the true story of Neil Baldwin (played by Toby Jones), a man once labelled with ‘learning difficulties’ whose life defies limitations.”

Toby Jones has been nominated for the Leading Actor award for his portrayal of the focus of the film Neil Baldwin the Stoke City kit man. Gemma Jones is up for an award for Supporting Actress for her role as Mary Baldwin, Neil’s mother.

Marvellous has also been nominated in the Single Drama category.

The film gained local traction prior to filming with a casting call put out by Wrexham.com generating hundreds of replies, with many local people taking part in the crowd scenes filmed at the Racecourse.

We are unaware if there is a ‘Best Supporting Crowd’, but if there is we think Wrexham would win it!

The BBC iPlayer page no longer has a watchable version, but there is surrounding information here.

The trailer is however still online and viewable below:
