This is Wrexham.com’s quick run down of the fun & fabulous stuff we have spotted in the local media which we encounter – usually the Leader, Post , local radio stations , BBC News etc. If you have spotted something good, bad or funny in the local media get in touch with us and we will pop it up here!

Week of Monday 14th May 2012

On Monday The Daily Post’s main story for Wrexham was the news that Labour had gone into coalition with Wrexham Democratic Independents to run Wrexham Council as predicted by us last week. The Leader led with news that council tenants with unruly children could be evicted from their homes under tough new proposals.

Tuesday saw The Leader run with a headline of a dog saving someones life, which we thought rang a bell. A quick Google revealed that the same lady was rescued by her dog in 2005! It was a different dog though, so we will try and find out where they get their training… Victoria is no stranger to the Leader, as she was featured in February this year trying to get her dog (the same one) into the record books for having the longest tongue in the world! The BBC picked up on the story a couple of days later.

Wednesdays ‘The Leader’ covered two Wrexham.com stories, namely the new Glyndwr sign on the Racecourse ground, and the Cefn Road speed limit signs. The latter caused us confusion here as it quotes ‘leader reader Sharon Smith posted on our Facebook page…’ however when we had a look we couldn’t spot anything – nor can we spot any mention of the issue before it was raised on our forums by user ‘tiger lilly’. The BBC covered Wrexham Council’s plans to plug leaking pollutants at Alyn Waters Country Park which could cost anywhere between £1-10m.

On Thursday the Post did a video report on a three car crash in Caegwrle which happened during rush hour. There was an amusing exclamation from a member of the public in the middle of the video and the insight of “it doesn’t look very good”. We just couldn’t get The Leader front page out of our head though, it was about Arnold’s bar and grill by Wrexham bus station being banned by a high court judge from playing recorded music after they played Kylie Minogue without a license.
