A resident who lives close to roadworks for the new Wrexham Industrial Estate link road has hit out after being left with several sleepless nights in the last week.

Darren Wrightford, who lives close to the Borras roundabout, said that on Wednesday and Saturday of last week roadworks were carried out between the hours of 10pm and 5am without consulting nearby residents. On the Wednesday workers were supposed to be putting drainage in but stopped after an hour due to a machine breaking down.

Then after visiting the site office to complain about the disruption Mr Wrightford was told that they would be returning on Saturday night to finish the job.

He said: “We’ve had problems since the roadworks started but its got worse since they started the night works, I haven’t been able to sleep while they’re doing it and I’ve got a 7 week old daughter too so it’s not good.

“I just cannot see the neccesity for doing it at night when they have laid whole carriageways during the day by switching traffic to the other side of the road.

“In the past we’ve been left with our car covered in mud and the house physically shaking due to the works. They’ve also started drilling at 7am.”

He added: “I can understand that the road will be good for Wrexham and to attract business, but it’s about 20 years too late for the industrial estate.

“They’re essentially building a £30m race track; we’re awoken on Saturday nights by drivers doing donuts round the roundabout and it’s not monitored properly.”
