After a period of sunny days this week, heavy rain, the risk of flash flooding and thunderstorms are on the agenda this weekend.

Spring finally arrived in Wrexham this week, with the county enjoying nice weather and temperatures of up to 18C.

All that looks set to change tomorrow however, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and potential thunderstorms across the afternoon.

A statement released by the Met Office today, reads: “Scattered showers or outbreaks of rain are expected to spread north during Saturday morning, then lasting into the evening. Between the showers and rain some brighter spells with hazy sunshine are expected.

“These showers may be heavy with the potential for lightning and small hail. Please be aware of the potential for localised disruption to travel and outdoor activities.”

While there is heavy rain on the forecast, temperatures across Wrexham are set to reach highs of 19c so expect some humid weather throughout the day.

A statement from the Met Office Chief Forecaster adds: “Scattered showers or outbreaks of rain are expected to run northwards across Wales and western parts of England from Saturday morning onwards. There will also be some brighter spells and hazy sunshine and it is possible that some places here may escape the showers or rain and remain dry.

“Uncertainty in the development of these showers and rain is higher than average and some areas may see only small amounts of rain.”

The weather warning is in place from 6am Saturday morning to 11pm in the evening.
