First Impressions Of Town Compromised By Anti Social Behaviour
Concerns about the first impression visitors may have of the town centre have been raised following complaints of uncleanliness and anti-social behaviour at the stairwell of a Wrexham Market.
The issues have been raised following complaints of litter, mess and anti-social behaviour at the stairwells leading to and from the multi-storey car park above the People’s Market.
Last week one Wrexham.com reader sent us the pictures featured above commenting on the ‘state’ of the market stairwells during the period of free car parking in the town centre – with another reader saying that there was anti-social behaviour taking place in one of the market’s stairwells.
Issues in the People’s Market stairwells have been raised before with one reader previously telling Wrexham.com that they ‘do not provide a good welcome to those who have parked in the car park and are visiting the town for the first time’.
There have also been comments regarding graffiti in the stairwells, with one notable piece in the market stairwells centering around a bloke called Deano, although derogatory we cannot confirm it first appeared during Dean Saunder’s ill fated local reign, but visible for a long while.
Speaking about the People’s Market stairwells, Cllr Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “We advise anyone – visitors or residents – who has an issue with the cleanliness or condition of any of our public facilities to get in touch with Contact Wrexham.
“The stairwells at the People’s Market are swept and cleaned regularly, and any instances of anti-social behaviour on the site will be referred to North Wales Police.
“We aim to improve the service and have rescheduled our cleaning regime to ensure this is a priority.”
We have been told the stairwell in question was quickly cleaned up and people were removed from the area shortly after the query was raised, so those spotting issues around town are asked to call the relevant people to get problems solved around town.
