A lead councillor has converted his ‘expanding foam faux pas’ mishap into an excuse to raise some money for a local charity.

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, who represents Gresford ward, told us he was doing some DIY that involved a can of expanding foam, that was ‘cheap’ with no nozzle. Cllr Atkinson said he ‘pressed it’ and ‘the whole thing went over my head’ and ‘just went boom’.

“It instantly solidified,” said Cllr Atkinson.

“I ran up the stairs, tried everything including washing up liquid, advice off the internet , everything for about four hours.

“So it had to come off. I know I am going to look a bit ridiculous so thought would raise some cash at the same time.”

Cllr Atkinson, who is also lead member for youth services, leisure and anti-poverty, is looking to raise £200 as part of a now sponsored shave, with the money going to Dynamic.

“Dynamic is a great local charity, and this is a great excuse to raise some money for them.

Thanks also goes out to Curtis at Gwersyllt Barbers who had the pleasure of cutting Clr Atkinson’s hair twice in 24 hours, as he had just been for a haircut.

“They did the second one for free, and sponsored me too. It was really painful coming off, as it was solid by then.” added Cllr Atkinson.
