A bed push funday recently raised £2,578 for Nightingale House Hospice.

The Old Black Horse pub in Rhostyllen organised the event which took place in August with the support of the pub’s customers and outgoing landlord Phil Cliff.

The regulars decided to raise money for their local charity by doing a 6 mile route which started in Wrexham town centre and included visiting 15 pubs along the way.

An evening of entertainment was also held at the pub afterwards for all the family to enjoy.

Phil Cliff said: “I would just like to thank the community of Rhostyllen for everybody’s support in our endeavour to create funds for Nightingale House Hospice.

“With me now moving on to pastures new, I wish Wendy and Keith Williams, who were a huge support to this event, the very best for the future in taking over the Old Black Horse.”

Margaret Hollings, Community Fundraising Manager at Nightingale House said: “We are truly thankful for everybody in Rhostyllen who took part in the bed push and who supported the fun day back at the pub.

“What a magnificent result and a great idea. It just shows how much fun fundraising can be and the different things you can do to raise money for the hospice.”

Nightingale House Hospice provides specialist palliative care services, completely free-of-charge, to patients and their families across a wide area stretching from Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire to Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch.

This year alone it will cost £2.46 million to run the Hospice, which equates to £6,700 per day, only 19% of this comes from statutory government sources meaning that the hospice greatly relies on the generosity of the communities it serves.
