Budding photographers and residents across the County Borough are being invited to take part in ‘The Wonders of Wrexham’ photo competition.

Following the news that North Wales is ranked fourth in the world of regions to visit, staff at Wrexham Council thought it time Wrexham celebrated its place in the world with a snapshot record of Wrexham throughout the year.

The Council has now launched The Wonders of Wrexham photo competition and residents are being asked to email photos of the county borough throughout the year for inclusion in a calendar to be launched next November.

Every month one photo will be chosen to represent the corresponding month in 2018. The Calendar will be launched in November 2017.

The winners will have their names attributed to their images on the Calendar. Every month a selection of the photos with the winning entry will be posted to the Council’s social media sites.

There’s no prize except all 12 winners will receive copies of the Wonders of Wrexham 2018 calendar when it is produced in November 2018.

Cllr Bob Dutton, Lead Member for Finance, Performance and Governance, said: “Many of us forget that we live in one of the most spectacular areas on our planet. We have the privilege of having on our doorstep two National Trust sites at Erddig and Chirk and a World Heritage site at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

“We are surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty and of scientific interest, we have wonderful country parks and open spaces, often chracterised by our industrial heritage.

“Many are free for everyone to enjoy. Our villages and towns all have their own unique characteristics and all this exists alongside main trunk roads and one of Europe’s largest industrial estates making Wrexham a very cosmopolitan 21st Century region.

“I hope the calendar portrays all these things to make a record of Wrexham over 12 months.”

The photographs can be of anywhere of anything in the county borough, rural, urban, architectural or agricultural and they should be submitted to [email protected].

You can submit as many photographs as you wish and they can be colour or black and white. Full resolution are preferred as if they get through to the final calendar they will need to be of print quality.

If the photograph features anyone but the photographer care must be taken to obtain permission to use it and if images of 18 year olds or under are used they should have written parental or guardian consent.

Full terms and conditions of the competition can be found on the Wrexham Council website.
