Wrexham Council’s most public facing planning officer David Williams ‘has resigned’, the council have confirmed.

Mr Williams is the officer most commonly seen at public planning meetings, and was most recently seen on Monday advising councillors they were set to make “one of the worst decisions that this authority will make”.

Wrexham Council’s Chief Officer for Planning, Lawrence Isted, contacted all councillors this morning to let them know of Mr Williams’ intended departure from the authority in September.

Mr Isted said, “David has led the Development Management team for more than 12 years and has worked for the Council since 1996 (and Clwyd before). He has been a highly respected professional officer and supportive leader. I am sure that you will want to join me in wishing his all the best in his future endeavours.”

“I am working with the Departmental Management Team to put interim arrangements in place pending a permanent appointment and will be working to get the right person in the post as soon as possible so that the team can have the continued support that they need.”

The loss of the officer is yet another departure of a long serving staff member from Wrexham Council, with the most senior legal officer, senior finance officers and the most senior housing & economy officer all departing or set to leave over the coming months.
